Our History
Solar Shield® was founded in 1998 by John Smith, an optometrist from California. After years of seeing patients with preventable eye damage from UV exposure, Dr. Smith set out to create sunglasses that were both protective and fashionable.
He began researching materials and lens technologies to filter 100% of UV rays, while maintaining optical clarity. After months of testing, Dr. Smith settled on a lens material that exceeded ANSI UV protection standards.
Next came the frames. Dr. Smith worked closely with designers to create frames that were lightweight, durable and on-trend. The result was the very first Solar Shield® sunglasses collection.
The patented lenses and stylish frames were an instant hit. Word began to spread about sunglasses that shield your eyes without compromising your style. Solar Shield® quickly became the leading brand for premium, protective eyewear.

All Solar Shield® eyewear lenses block 100% of UVA/UVB radiation up to 400 nm and meet ANSI Z80.3 standards.
Our polarized sunglass lenses pass 15 individual tests for clarity, durability, and proper polarization filtration.
Frames undergo rigorous inspections at our factories. We reject any frames that fail stress tests or deviate from design specifications.
After assembly, our quality control team thoroughly examines finished products for cosmetic flaws or lens defects. Any eyewear not meeting our high standards gets discarded.
